Ian Phillips was born and raised in New York City. For the past ten years, he has been producing and directing films independently in New York City and about New York City.
His first first Feature Documentary “Coach Jake” premiered at the Urbanworld Film Festival in September of 2017 and was distributed by First Fun Features.
His second Feature Documentary “There Goes The Neighborhood” won multiple awards at Film Festivals and is currently distributed by IndiePix.
His latest Feature Narrative film, “A New York Christmas Wedding” which he Produced and Edited, was distributed by Netflix.
His latest short documentary “Reconciliation” won the BET / WALMART Black and Unlimited Fatherhood Challenge at the 2025 American Black Film Festival.
He is also a co-founder of Willful Productions along with his frequent collaborator, Otoja Abit.
